Bachelor of Education in Foundation Phase Teaching, NQF level 7, SAQA ID 118270

This is a 4 year (full-time) or 5 year (part-time), blended mode of delivery (distance with extra support) qualification for individuals wanting to study to become a Foundation Phase Teacher.  You will be provided with all of your material in e-book format and have the option to add hard copy material as well. 

The purpose of the degree is to develop qualified Foundation Phase teachers who can demonstrate focused knowledge and skills in the teaching of young learners in their early development years from grades R to 3. Individuals completing this qualification will be fully qualified as professional educators teaching learners in the foundation phase in schooling.

Minimum admission requirements:

• A National Senior Certificate (Matric) granting access to Bachelor Degree studies or
• A Senior Certificate (SC) with matriculation exemption with at least a D symbol on HG or a C symbol on SG in the language of teaching and learning (prior to 2008) or
• A National Certificate Vocational (NCV), that meets the requirements for admission to a Bachelor Degree or
• A former three-year Education Diploma or a National Professional Diploma in Education – (360 credits at level 5). For example, Diploma in Grade R Teaching or
• Teachers who are in possession of a recognised Certificate or Diploma in education may present their qualifications for entry into Bachelor of Education with a possibility of credit transfer for successfully completed modules. Credit Accumulation Transfer may be considered for successfully completed modules up to 180 credits. Students enrol for remaining 320 credits of the BEd (Foundation Phase Teaching), after successfully applying for assessment of prior learning or
• A former undergraduate Higher Diploma in Education or a former Further Diploma in Education (NQF Level 6) or
• Teachers who are in possession of a recognised Certificate or Diploma in education or any other relevant field may present their qualifications for entry into Bachelor of Education with a possibility of credit transfer for successfully completed modules. Credit Accumulation Transfer may be considered for successfully completed modules up to 180 credits. Students enrol for remaining 320 credits of the BEd (Foundation Phase Teaching), after successfully applying for assessment of prior learning or
• Assessment of prior learning (RPL) could also lead to entry or advanced credit standing.

• Matured Age Exemption – Should you have not passed your matric with exemption, are above the age of 23 and comply with the above mentioned language requirements, you can apply for matured age exemption. The qualification is registered on the NQF, SAQA ID 118270.

The qualification is recognised by the Department of Education and is considered for REQV improvement.
